My 2nd game of the year and it’s another HTML5 game! I’m really enjoying javascript now, I’m getting used to everything, the loose typing, the do whatever you want, the typos :) It’s fast to develop with and testing on mobile is so much faster than deploying in Flash. It’s great.
Angel Breed was built for the Open University to promote their sciences courses, in particular, genetics. You start off with a couple of fish with varying genes/phenotypes which denotes the fish monetary value. By breading the two fish together, you will be given 3 new fish with genes based on their parents and different monetary values. You can buy and sell fish and after 30 turns the game is over and the monetary value of all your fish is added up to create your score.
What was exciting about this project was that I integrated the export from the Flash ‘Toolkit’ plugin which allowed us to build animations and screen layouts in Flash just as we would with a Flash project. the integration mainly involved parsing the export so that it uses images from our texture atlases rather than individual images. Also, work to enable SD and HD resolutions and a few more bits and bobs. The end result is that a menu screen that may have taken half a day to code can now be done in minutes :D.
